#migupPenang : Lunch where?

Despite having our tummy half filled with food, my roommates and I met up with the mig.me staff and other users.we went ahead for lunch at Restoran Sun Yoon Kee Seafood, recommended by our local host, Patie. Sun Yoon Kee serves Chinese styled cooked food, or what we call zi-char. And there's what we had for our lunch feast!

Pork Belly with dark sauce
This is almost a must to order when eating in Penang, but I don't take pork so I can't tell you how it was, but I'm sure its good :)
Tempura prawns filled with salted egg yolk.

Anyone, everyone please order this when you are there.
If you are too hipster, you might not have known that salted egg yolk has taken over Singapore Food Trends by ermmm, egg yolks. While this is something that ALL prawns lovers would like and look at that prawn. I don't think I need to explain more.
Potato stem leaves with shrimps
This nutritional dish need no further introduction.
Salted vegetable duck soup

Quick fry Fish cooked with ginger and spring onions

To-fu dish

Lunch hour!

It was a nice lunch with the fellow mig.me users and of course accompanied by really nice food. Can't wait for my next trip to Penang, definitely going back to Sun Yoon Kee for noms! I can't decide which is my favourite cause all is good. Also, the friendly owner makes sure you are ease like at home and gives the best recommendations for his patrons to enjoy their meal.

Did I mention that the whole place is super photo worthy? Can do some nice shoots there if I have the chance too hehe.

Rare spotting !

Old-school cash register.
The cash register is such a rare treasure that the restaurant is still using. Unfortunately didn't get to see how it works though.

And also a beige colored vespa.

Bye guys, that's all for now!

Hong Kong Yums : Mak's Noodles

Michelin Listing food?

Okay lor, we try.

Here we are, a few steps away from Australian Dairy Company, feeling disappointed after seeing the ridiculously long queue - Mak's Noodles.
Mak's Noodles

We were pretty lucky as we saw some people queueing up for the noodles store and we also did see the Michelin listing at the shop front and we thought, why not, let's just try this.Since we have no other place in mind for breakfast now. :(
Mak's Noodles
Mak's Noodles offers a list of variety of wanton noodles starting from HKD $33.

Mak's Noodles
A cuppa of soy milk for the three of us to share, HKD$8

& the most basic wanton noodles each. HKD$33

Mak's Noodles

My Say :

The noodles are thin but yet springy and the soup was flavored nicely. The wanton was smooth and the shrimp tastes fresh. Not bad, and I would go again. I am not a fan of wanton noodles so for me I guess I would not specially make a trip down to the shop but would pop in to one if it is along the way and for a quick bite.

Hong Kong Yums : Sun Kee Cheese Noodles

Cheese Lovers look up !

Sun Kee Cheese Noodles

Frequent Hong Kong travelers should be familiar with this cafe/restaurant. Sun Kee is well known for its cheese noodles, popular among the local celebrities. While walking past the shop front, one would be able to see the clear glass panel filled with media recommendations and pictures with local celebrities enjoying their bowl of noodles. When we saw this during the stage of itinerary planning, we decided to put it in the must-try section. hee Since we were staying at Tsim Sha Tshui, we decided to visit the outlet instead.

Sun Kee Cheese Noodles

2 Ice Lemon Tea and a bowl of cheese chicken wings noodles.
The shop opens at 12 noon and we had to eat at the eatery next to it for breakfast as we had a movie show to catch. A bowl to share because we were still too full from breakfast. (which is pretty good food too, big portion and reasonable prices)

I had to do this. HAHA

My say :

In my opinion, I thought the noodles was good for sharing. The cheese sauce became too overwhelming for us after a while. I suggest for patrons to order one of their cheese sauce noodles and other noodles choices to share. Meanwhile, it is a good food place and I would go back from time to time when I'm in Hong Kong.

Sponsored Review : Yum Cha at Changi Business Park

First of all thank you YumCha Restaurants for having me over a dim sum feast dinner!

I was with Fenny, Ms Rusty, HPilitys' writers and William two weeks ago at the newly opened YumCha outlet at Changi Business Park for a great dinner.

As we all know, Yum Cha was one of the first to offer dim sum in Singapore where their first outlet was started out at Chinatown.  Now the home grown brand has four outlets and also the express delivery service. Each outlet has its concept, while for the one I was at, had a casual kitchen concept serving dim sum and roasted delights.

I started off with the fresh Prawn congee. ($8.80)  while Fenny had the Dry Beef Brisket Noodles ($7.80)

Rusty's Prawn Wanton Noodles ($7.20)

Shared the dim sum as well!
Yum Cha Prawn Dumpling ($4.60 for 3pcs)
 Custard Bun ($4.50 for 3pcs)
Lotus Leaf Glutinous Rice ($4.20 for 2pcs)
Fish Roe Siew Mai ($3.80 for 3pcs)
Beancurd roll with Superior Sauce ($3.80)
Prawn Wanton Crisp ($4.00 for 3pcs)
Shrimp Beancurd Roll ($4.00 for 3pcs)
Prawn & Mango Fritters ($4.00 for 3pcs)

One of my favourite at the dinner, probably because of my love for prawn and mango.
Try it!!!!
Fried Carrot Cake ($3.80 for 3pcs)
Crispy Red Bean with Banana ($3.80 for 3pcs)

THIS IS SO MAGICAL. WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF SUCH A COMBINATION.
Red Bean x Banana, I  thought William was kidding me when he raved about it so badly.
It was good. Period.
We had  a special platter for the roasted delights.  It consisted of the crispy roasted duck ($12.80), crispy roasted chicken , honey roasted char siew and crispy roasted pork($11.80).

We were so full we didn't finish all the food!
Sorry chef.

But there's always room for desserts. heh.

Fenny had the Lemongrass jelly with mixed fruits ($4.00)
While I went for Pomelo Saho in Mango Juice ($4.00)

Such a pity we were so full we didn't take a group picture.

Nonetheless, time for good news!

* only applicable for outlet at Changi Business Park.

With $11.80 (NETT PRICE WTF) , you get to pick a dim sum, noodle/congee & a drink (I recommend Honey Watercress)

Till the next makan session!

Loves,
A

Sponsored Review : Mellben Legend Seafood

I believe Mellben isn't a name that is unfamiliar to many Singaporean friends. It is soooooo popular that I never tried it before because the queue is forever long. Finally I had a chance to try out the ever popular crab-ster place, thanks to Silver & Fenny.

My first attempt holding a crab & look ! Even my face is smaller than the crab !

We had a total of seven dishes, including 3 crab dishes.
To start off, we had the savory signature tofu. Topped with the spring onions and fried onion bits (?) , the fried tofu is smooth in the inside and accompanied with a nice thick gravy. The gravy, I likey.
Signature Tofu

Followed up by the Lemon prawns, which was more like a tomyum prawn soup to me. Well, it just taste like tomyum goong and surely appetizing.

Lemon Prawns
The vegetables are fresh, crunchy and of course making the late dinner not so sinful. *wink
Dry Ba Kut Teh (pork ribs)

We had an appetizer, a soup and a vegetable dish, of course we had something for the carnivores too.
Meat lovers, I present to you the Dry Ba Kut Teh Pork ribs.

Here comes the highlight of the day!
P/s : I'm not able to advice on the crab pricing as they follow the market rate & weigh by kilograms.

Crab Laksa

The crab laksa is a new addition to their crab menu. Famous for their Crab Beehoon, Mellben introduces the crab laksa to appeal to Singaporeans and curious tourists. Creative combination of the crab and local laksa, this dish allows patrons to enjoy the freshness of the crab and yet a local favourite at the same time. Yet, the thick gravy does not over power the sweetness of the crab.

Curry Black Pepper Crab

Not the usual kind of black pepper crab you would have. Not just black pepper, the chef also adds in the curry powder to level up the fragrant of the crab. A combination of curry and black pepper crab! Yums !!!

Golden sands Crabs
In short, this is Liu sha bao (custard buns) in crab format.

My say :

If I'm going to dine there again, I would order the lemon prawns again.Thinking about it is making me hungry!! My favourite crab dish is of course the Golden Sands Crab, while my least favorite is the Crab Laksa. (I'm not a fan of local laksa) The crabs served during the dinner were big, fresh and meaty(?).Glad that all the crabs we had during the dinner had tons of flesh(crab meat) This is a nice place for family dinners as they offers a great variety of food choices, just like any zhi char stores.
I would recommend this place for tourists who are looking for local flavors at a reasonable price. A pity that the location does not have any pretty sea view but definitely a comfortable place to dine in. Don't expect aircon and fantastic service as it is a very Singaporean kind of place. I also like the fact that the drinks menu have many choices of home made drinks, not to mention about my love for the coconut they serve ! Will re-visit to satisfy my crab cravings and bring my foreign guests there.
Advice to make advance reservations before heading down.
